Untuk membedakan penggunaan konteks kedua tenses ini, perhatikan perbandingan kalimat berikut:

 

Present Continuous Tense

Simple Present Tense

Aktifitasnya sedang terjadi atau di dekat waktu bicara.

Aktifitasnya umum dan berulang.

The water is boiling. Can you turn it off?

I’m getting hungry. Any food in the fridge?

It’s not raining now. Let’s go out.

Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius.

I always get hungry at night.

It doesn’t rain much in dry season.

 

Merujuk pada situasi temporal

 

Merujuk pada situasi permanen

I’m living here until I find a new place.

You’re working hard today, Bro.

My parents live in Jakarta.

He is persistent. He works hard most of the time.

 

I always do VS I’m always doing

Perhatikan konteks berikut:

I always go to work by bus. (Kegiatannya rutin)

 

I am always losing my pen. (Momen dimana sesuatu itu terjadi terlampau sering/banyak)

You are never satisfied. You’re always complaining. (Mengeluh terlalu sering/banyak)
